YouKlai is published by Edouard Martin, a natural person and the data controller for your data. For any question or request about your data: contact@youklai.com.

Your account: a technical identifier. Your email address, which is used to sign you in, is held by our identity provider, which sends you the sign-in code; our servers do not store it and only request it when an email needs to be sent. There is no password. Your profile: first name, gender (“Prefer not to say” is one of the options), city and time zone, country, language, date of birth if you provide it and the payment platforms you add to it. Your profile photo, if you add one: a single photo, the same for all your links. For each link: the last text posted, with its translation and the chosen writing style, color and size; the last photo; at most two drawings; on each of these, the heart, the word or sticker the other person replies with and its author's answer; the kind of link, its color, its dates and its countdown and a record that its first questions have been answered and by whom; link requests and their outcome; declared gifts and the date of the last payment platform request; the nickname you give the person and the mute you set on the link, which stay on your side and which the other person does not see. Your invite code, which is fixed. Your devices: the notification token and its environment, the language, the app version and the state of the notification setting, as well as a technical key that lets your widgets act on your behalf. The date you last opened the app. For security: attempts to enter a code and a log of technical incidents that contains neither content nor addresses. If you report content: your identifier and that of the reported person, the selected reason, your explanation and a frozen copy of the concerned content only (text, photo, drawing, the amount of a gift, or a word left as a reaction); if you report the person themselves, their first name, city and profile picture. If you block someone: their identifier and their first name at the time of the block, so that you can remove it.

The service asks for your email address, a first name, a gender choice (“Prefer not to say” is one of the options), a city and a language. Date of birth, profile photo and nickname are optional and can be removed at any time. City and gender can be changed at any time, but are part of the profile.

To provide the service you ask for, under the contract between us: creating your account, connecting you with your people, delivering what you post for each other, displaying your widgets, letting you know what has arrived for you, exporting or deleting your data. To keep the service secure and prevent abuse, on the basis of our legitimate interest: limiting code attempts, removing invalid notification tokens, keeping an incident log that holds no content. The notifications that tell you about content received, a reaction, a gift or a link request are part of how the service works; optional reminders (for example a birthday, help setting up a widget, or three days without a drawing or a photo) are calculated directly on your phone, without any further data being sent to our servers, in the legitimate interest of making the service useful, with no advertising or profiling and can be turned off at any time. In every case, whether notifications are displayed, like access to your location, your camera and your photos, depends on the permissions you grant iOS, which can be revoked in Settings; the switches in your profile stop notifications from being sent at the source. No advertising, no third-party trackers, no individual audience measurement, no resale, no automated decision-making about you. Only anonymous daily counters record how many times the sticker grid and the writing shop are opened, with no identifier or link, so we know what gets used.

YouKlai does not read your address book. To invite someone, the app opens Apple's contact picker, which runs outside the app and passes it only the name and phone number of the person you choose, just long enough to prepare the message. Nothing is stored or sent to our servers. No invitation is sent without your action and you can always use the Share option instead.

A gift is an amount of money that someone close to you sends you, or that you send them, person to person, through the payment platform each of you can add to your profile (PayPal.Me, Revolut, Wise, Lydia, a PromptPay QR…). This platform is optional, you provide it yourself and only the people linked to you can see it. YouKlai does not handle the money, does not see the real amount and takes no commission: the app opens the platform and the transfer happens with the payment service, under its own terms. We only keep the gesture you declare: the person, the date and the amount, to notify the other person and show it on the widget, along with the reaction or word they reply with. Each gesture stays as long as the link exists: it is deleted with the link and with your account and appears in your export. If you ask someone close to you to add a platform, we keep the date of your request, so they are notified only once a day.

A person linked to you sees your profile: your first name (or the nickname they give you), your city, your local time and weather, your country, your language, your gender, your birthday if you have provided it, your profile photo and the payment platforms you have added to your profile. When you enter someone's code, that person receives your profile, without your payment platforms (the app shows them your first name and your city) so they can accept or decline. Your links do not see each other: what you post for one is never served to another; only your profile photo and your payment platforms are the same for all of them. The nickname and mute you choose are never shown to the person concerned. Your email address is shown to no one.

It happens on your phone, through Apple's translation system: the text is not sent to any translation provider. A connection may be needed to download a language before its first use. The text and its translation are then placed on our servers so they can be displayed for the person you address it to, in the app and on their widgets.

They are built by our servers and delivered by Apple's notification service, in your device's language. They say who has posted something for you, who liked or replied to your drawing, photo, text or gift, who sent you a gift or would like to, or who wants to link with you; never the content itself, with one exception: the word someone close to you writes in reply to what you posted, or to your reaction, is shown in the notification, as in the app. You can turn them off from your profile, or mute a person from their card: the server then stops sending them.

When someone enters your code, we send you an email through our email delivery provider. It contains only the first name of the person making the request and a link that opens the app. Your address is requested from the identity provider only at the moment of sending; it is then neither stored in our tables nor written to our logs. The delivery provider keeps what is needed for delivery, for its own contractual retention period. We send no email other than this one and the codes the identity provider sends you to sign in or change your address.

The name of your city and that of the city of each person linked to you are sent, from your phone, to a third-party weather service, which returns their coordinates, the sky and the temperature. YouKlai uses these coordinates to calculate the distance and draw the map; each person's card shows their city with Apple Maps. The weather service receives neither your identity nor the content of your links. Your location is only read if you ask the app to fill in your city from where you are: it is then requested with an accuracy of about one kilometer, passed to Apple's location service to obtain a city name, a time zone and a country and then forgotten. It is neither kept on the phone nor placed on our servers. The chosen city, its time zone and the country, on the other hand, become part of your profile.

The server enforces access rules that serve a link's data only to the two people who form it and files (photos, drawings, profile photos, evidence attached to a report) are stored in a private space subject to the same rules. Our providers and the people authorized to operate the service, access it only when necessary for its operation or maintenance, under an obligation of confidentiality. The providers, by category: hosting of the database, files and server functions; identity and delivery of sign-in codes; email delivery; notifications, translation, location and maps (Apple); weather. We select providers bound by contractual obligations of confidentiality, security and data protection at least equivalent to those described on this page, to the extent required for the processing entrusted to them. Their list, by name, is available on request at contact@youklai.com.

YouKlai's database and files are hosted in the European Union, in our hosting provider's Ireland region. Some technical operations are carried out through functions distributed across this provider's global infrastructure; they may therefore involve occasional processing outside the European Economic Area. Some providers may also process data outside the European Economic Area. Depending on the provider and the country concerned, these transfers rely on an adequacy decision of the European Commission, on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the entity concerned is certified under it, or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can obtain a copy of, or the references for, the applicable safeguards by writing to contact@youklai.com.

The content of a link: until it is replaced by the next send, the link is ended or the account is deleted. A single photo per link, a single text, at most two drawings; each of these contents can only be removed by the person who posted it, the other being able to replace it with their own. What is replaced or removed is deleted, file included, along with the heart, word or sticker that replied to it. A declared gift and what replies to it: as long as the link exists. The date of a payment platform request: as long as the link exists. Your profile photo: as long as you keep it, one at a time. Your payment platforms: as long as you keep them in your profile. A link request: until it is accepted, declined, canceled or expires thirty days after it was sent, after which it is deleted and the record of the invitation email goes with it. The outcome of a request is kept for ninety days; an attempt to enter a code, for one day. A report and the frozen items that come with it, are kept for thirty days and then deleted automatically. A block is kept until you remove it. A device: its information is kept as long as the account exists and its notification token remains valid; on sign-out, the device is silenced; its record is deleted if Apple declares the token invalid or when the account is deleted. Your account: as long as it lives; after twenty-three months without the app being opened, automatic deletion of the account and its data is triggered and if deleting the identity fails temporarily, a technical task retries it. If your identity disappears from the provider without going through the app, your data is erased after two checks twenty-four hours apart. The technical incident log, which contains neither shared content nor email addresses, is kept for ninety days and then deleted automatically; what made it possible to identify you in it is removed sooner if you delete your account.

Ending a link erases, for both people, everything that link carried: texts, photos, drawings, reactions and replies, gifts, nicknames, mutes, requests and related emails. Deleting your account, from your profile, first erases your active data on our servers, all links included, then your identity with the identity provider; if this second step fails, the app tells you, you can try again and a nightly task completes it. File cleanup finishes in the days that follow. On your phone, the app erases its local data in the same action. The blocks you had placed and those aimed at you, are deleted. A report already filed remains until its thirty-day term, no longer carrying your identifier. The only things that survive temporarily are the technical details strictly necessary to complete the erasure, for example an identifier, a file path and a date; they do not contain the deleted content.

Access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction and objection: from the app, or by email to contact@youklai.com. Your profile and your email address can be changed in the app at any time. Your profile builds a readable, portable archive of the main data tied to your account, images and email address included; access to other personal data remains available on request. Account deletion is triggered directly from the app, without having to send us a prior request. Permissions granted to iOS can be withdrawn in Settings. If you believe your rights have been disregarded, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).

YouKlai is reserved for people aged sixteen and over. If you enter a date of birth, the app and the server reject any date that would make you under sixteen.

This page may change along with the service. Its version date identifies the applicable text. When the nature of the processing changes, the necessary information is provided to you before the change takes effect, where regulations require it.

An app that connects you with loved ones separated from you by distance, a love, a family, friends: a countdown, each person's time and weather, a translated sentence placed on the other person's screen, a shared canvas, a shared photo, a heart, a word or a sticker in reply, a declared gift and widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen. A person can hold several links; each is a separate space and what you post there stays there. YouKlai is free: no subscription, no in-app purchases. The app runs on iPhone, on iOS 18 or later.

YouKlai is reserved for people aged sixteen and over.

YouKlai works without a password: your email address and a six-digit code received by email are enough. Your account is not tied to a phone: you get it back on another device with the same address. You are responsible for access to your mailbox, which gives access to your account. You can change your address, sign out or delete your account at any time from your profile.

Each person has a fixed invite code. Entering someone's code does not link anyone: it creates a request, which that person accepts or declines after seeing your first name and your city. You cannot link with the same person twice. Either person can end a link at any time; ending it erases, for both, what that link carried. Your invitation link carries this code: it goes out in the message you choose to send and our website reads it only to open the app or show it to someone who does not have it yet, without keeping it.

What you write, draw and share, reactions and replies included, belongs to you. You grant us the license strictly necessary to host and transmit this content, together with, where applicable, the translated version your device places on the server, in order to display them to the person you address it to and in their widgets. Nothing more and it ends when the content is erased. YouKlai keeps no history: for each link, only the last text, the last photo and at most two drawings are kept, each send replacing the previous one. Declared gifts are the exception: they remain, one per gesture, as long as the link exists. A text, a photo or the displayed drawing can only be removed by the person who posted it; the other person can replace it with their own submission. Export from your profile whatever you wish to keep.

YouKlai is intended for personal use between consenting close ones. Any use aimed at harassing, monitoring or coercing a person is forbidden, as is sending unlawful, unsolicited sexual, violent or hateful content. You warrant that you hold the rights to what you send. A text, a drawing, a photo, a gift or a reply carries “Report”, which alerts us and so does a person's card; from that card, “Block” deletes the link and prevents that person from adding you again. A report can also be sent by email to contact@youklai.com. We review every report within twenty-four hours and may take the technically available and proportionate measures, in particular asking for the content to be removed, ending the link concerned or closing the account where the seriousness of the situation warrants it.

We do our best to keep the service working, without being able to guarantee uninterrupted availability. YouKlai is provided as is and depends on third-party services (Apple's system and notifications, hosting, identity, email, weather). We are not liable for indirect damages, nor for what is beyond the service: a network outage, a phone that is switched off, content replaced by the next send. Nothing in these terms excludes a liability that cannot legally be excluded, nor deprives a consumer of their rights.

The service and these terms may change. Their version date identifies the applicable text. Changes that require prior notice are presented to you before they take effect. If you decline them, you can delete your account.

You can end a link or delete your account at any time, from your profile. An account for which the app has not been opened for the period stated on the “Privacy and data” page is deleted automatically. We may close an account in the event of a serious breach of these terms or of a legal obligation and may discontinue the service.

These terms are governed by French law, without depriving a consumer of the mandatory protections of the country where they reside. In the event of a disagreement, write to us first at contact@youklai.com: most things are settled with an email. Failing that, the dispute falls to the competent courts.

Check the address and spam folder, then request a new code if needed. Never share the code.

For missing content, check connectivity, reopen the app and confirm the connection still exists. Check iOS permissions and that connection’s mute setting.

The profile lets you end a connection or delete the account. Deletion is permanent. Do not send confidential content to support unless necessary.

YouKlai is published on a non-professional basis by a natural person, who is its director of publication. In accordance with Article 1-1 II of the French Trust in the Digital Economy Act (LCEN), the publisher has provided the site's hosting provider with the identifying details required by law. The app's database and private storage are hosted in a European Union region by Supabase Pte. Ltd., 65 Chulia Street, #38-02/03, OCBC Centre, Singapore 049513. Contact: privacy@supabase.com. The technical functions use this provider's distributed infrastructure.
